Reminder allows you to automatically send people a series of pre-written email messages over a period of time. The potential uses for Reminder are unlimited. Here are a few examples of how Reminder is already being used:

  • You want to send your website's visitors "please come back" reminders once a week for a month, with descriptions of your site's features.

  • You've written a book and you want to be able to automatically send new readers a chapter of your book every week.

  • You're a network marketer. When you receive a new prospect, you want to send them a series of email messages about your company to inform them about your opportunity. You might want your leads to receive an "About Our Company" email on day one, an "About Our Products" email on day two, and a "How to Sign Up" email on day three.

Reminder is perfect for these and many more situations. The best part is that it's automatic; you don't have to keep track of who's received which message, Reminder does it for you!

Prominent features of Reminder include:

  • Sends a series of different messages to your readers via email over time.
  • Allows an unlimited number of messages in your series (please be reasonable - don't bombard your readers and don't mail anyone without permission).
  • Supports recipient self-subscription. Users can sign themselves up for your mailings by filling out a web form.
  • Confirms all self-subscriptions ("confirmed opt-in") using an authorization token. This prevents visitors from signing up other people for the list.
  • Handles all email sending by storing your predefined email messages in a database. Forget about that old copy/paste routine! Store your messages once, and you're done.
  • Keeps track of which people have received which emails, and removes users from the mailing list after they've received all of the messages.
  • Separates your emails by a specific number of days. You can have your readers receive one email per day, or one per week, etc.
  • One-click daily processing of messages. Simply access the URL for your installed copy of Reminder and click one button to send out all of the day's mailings! You can even automate the process through cron or Windows Task Scheduler.
  • Password protection of all administrative functions.
  • Easy interface for adding or removing people from the database. To add a new user, simply enter their name and email address. To remove someone, just enter their email address.
  • Supports recipient self-removal. Readers who don't want to finish receiving all of your messages can remove themselves from the list with one click.
  • Automatically checks for upgrades when you run the script. If an upgrade is available, a reminder will appear on the main Admin screen.

Future features/being developed:

  • There is currently beta support for setting up an autoresponder. This allows your visitors to sign up for your list by sending email to a particular email address, instead of filling out a web form. Functionality of this feature is limited, and requires that you have root access on your web server.

Requirements

Reminder is not a Windows program, it's a CGI script written in PHP and it's meant to be run on web servers. In order to use Reminder, you must have PHP 4.2 or higher and MySQL installed on your web server, as well as access to sendmail. You also need the ability to execute CGI scripts on your server, preferably in any directory (i.e. not just the cgi-bin directory). Many webhosts meet these requirements; if you can't find one that does, check out Host with the Most.

Installing Reminder is as easy as uploading the scripts, running the install script, and typing in your messages. For full installation instructions, see the documentation. If you're not familiar with CGI scripts and you feel uncomfortable installing Reminder yourself, I can install it for you at a charge of $50. I will need FTP access to your web server in order to do this; if you'd like to have me install it, please send me an email.
